ADHD Moms in South Jersey Are Adding Placenta Pills to Their Postpartum Care Kits
I’ve been encapsulating placentas since 2012 here in South Jersey, and over the years, I’ve worked with many amazing moms. A few years ago, something caught my attention—I started to notice that many of my clients were ADHD moms. It wasn’t something I was marketing, but when I surveyed past clients, I definitely noticed a trend.
My Postpartum Experience: Before and After Placenta Pills
My first postpartum wasn’t what I expected. The overwhelm was real—brain fog, irritability, emotional rollercoaster. I ended up with a hard-core case of postpartum anxiety and rage. I didn’t have placenta pills at the time, and looking back, it makes sense why I felt like I was “drowning in motherhood” – I was unaware of my own ADHD and I had done nothing to prepare for this huge change that had happened to me.
When my next baby came along, still unaware of my neurodivergence, I encapsulated my placenta, and the difference was significant. I definitely wouldn’t say that postpartum this time was “easy,” but I did feel more stable. There was no random crying, emotional swings were less intense, and I could focus and function. I wasn’t in a constant state of fog.
So, Why Are ADHD Moms Drawn to Placenta Encapsulation?
Placenta encapsulation isn’t a miracle cure, but I can see why ADHD moms are naturally attracted to it. Here’s why:
Postpartum + ADHD = Overwhelm
ADHD moms are no strangers to overwhelm, and postpartum exacerbates our ADHD symptoms. Hormonal fluctuations, no sleep, and the overwhelming demands of adjusting to a new life can make it hard to feel grounded. Placenta pills can help provide a bit of stability and mental clarity, making it easier to handle the demands of new motherhood.
ADHD Sensitivity to Emotional Swings
As ADHDers, we tend to struggle with emotional dysregulation as it is. ADHD tends to make emotional ups and downs feel more intense, and those postpartum hormonal shifts can really get us going. Placenta encapsulation can help stabilize those mood swings and prevent them from spiraling.
We Need Simple, Effective Solutions
ADHD moms are resourceful and know we need to take steps to manage the postpartum period. However, in a society that offers limited support for both ADHD and new moms, our options often feel scarce. When expectant moms search “How to prevent postpartum depression,” they’re typically met with generic advice on self-care and few practical solutions. Placenta pills offer a simple, low-risk way to support energy and emotional regulation, without adding to an already overwhelming to-do list.
In Addition to Adderall
For many ADHD moms, medication for symptom management is a game-changer, and it can be especially helpful during pregnancy and postpartum. However, many are told by their providers that they can’t take Adderall while pregnant or breastfeeding, which is not always accurate.
Advice about medication during this time should come from a provider with expertise in perinatal care, such as one trained by Postpartum Support International. These professionals have specialized knowledge about medications and the perinatal period. They’ll make sure you receive up-to-date, accurate information and options.
While medication is important, placenta encapsulation offers a natural, low-effort supplement to support mental health and well-being. It’s not a replacement for your medication, but an additional tool in your postpartum recovery toolkit.
Placenta Encapsulation Is Just One Piece of the Puzzle
While placenta pills are a great tool, I want to be clear: they’re not the end-all, be-all solution. In fact, they’re just one part of a larger strategy I offer for ADHD moms in South Jersey. Postpartum is tough enough on its own, but with ADHD, the challenges can feel even more intense. That’s why I created a package that’s about More Than Just the Pills.
Here’s how my holistic support package works for South Jersey moms with ADHD:
Postpartum Well-Being Assessment:
The first step in our work together is understanding your needs, strengths, and challenges. Through a comprehensive postpartum profile, including a PMAD risk assessment, we get into your mental and emotional well-being, taking into account your ADHD and any other factors that might impact your postpartum experience. From there, I help create a personalized plan that not only prepares you for what’s to come but also gives you the tools and strategies to navigate the ups and downs of motherhood.
ADHD-Optimized Postpartum Plan:
Your Individualized Postpartum Plan (IPP) will help you keep your head above water through your fourth trimester (and beyond). This isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution; it’s a plan tailored to how your brain works. We dig into all the details—your home, lifestyle, daily tasks, personality, and needs—to set you up for success from the start. Your plan will help you prepare for all things mothering with ADHD and goes well beyond postpartum recovery. I help you create a life that works for you and your family.
Ongoing Support:
You don’t just get placenta pills—you get ongoing emotional support and regular check-ins. ADHD moms often experience hyperfocus, intense worry, and overwhelm, and postpartum can magnify these challenges. That’s why I’m here to be your trusted mentor, available when you feel stressed, overwhelmed, or unsure. Whether you need strategies to calm your racing thoughts, a pep talk to help you get through ‘til bedtime, or just someone to remind you that everything you’re feeling is normal and temporary, I’m just a text away. You’re never alone in this—I'm here to help you stay grounded, no matter how crazy things feel.
Community and Connection:
Being an ADHD mom doesn’t have to mean feeling isolated. Through our weekly support groups, you’ll connect with moms who get it. ADHD moms are often free thinkers—we love to do things our way. We’re curious, we love to research, and we’re always looking for better ways to do things. We often don’t fit into the mainstream mommy mold. Having a community of like-brained moms to bounce ideas off of is invaluable. You can get creative, share strategies, and explore solutions that fit your unique way of thinking, all while being supported by people who don’t expect you to be anything but you. You’re free to parent the way that works for you—and you’ll have the support to make it happen.
ADHD Moms in Need More Than Just Placenta Pills
Placenta pills are great, but they aren’t magic. The ADHD brain needs a multifaceted approach—something that includes structure, emotional support, and strategies for managing overwhelm. I know, because I’m one of you. And I don’t want you to have to struggle like I did.
I believe every mom deserves to feel supported, confident, and in control as she transitions into motherhood. And for ADHD moms, this means we need to create a postpartum experience that takes our unique needs into account, rather than following the mainstream motherhood playbook.
Placenta encapsulation is just one tool in your postpartum toolbox. With the right support, though, it can be part of creating a postpartum experience that you look back on with joy and smiles.
A healthy and enjoyable postpartum takes more than just placenta pills; it takes having the emotional support, strategies, and resources you need to feel grounded and confident during this time of massive change. With the right plan in place, you’ll be able to navigate the ups and downs of postpartum with a sense of ease, knowing you’ve got the tools and community to support you every step of the way.
